Floor-covering distributor Haines is opening a distribution center in Concord, where the Maryland-based company will hire 172 full-time workers.
The new facility will serve as Haines’ southern hub, and it will house the company’s entire portfolio of floor covering, installation and maintenance products, according to a statement Tuesday. The project will generate $6.4 million in investment, Haines said.
Haines says the jobs for which it is hiring will pay more than the Cabarrus County average yearly salary, which is $37,808.
The project is made possible in part by a performance-based incentives package that includes $38,080 from Cabarrus County and $26,112 from the City of Concord.
Haines’ new 500,000 square-foot distribution center is still under construction in Concord Airport Business Park on Derita Road. The company says it plans to begin operations there in the first quarter of 2018.
“When a distribution company like Haines comes to Cabarrus, it’s a step in the right direction,” said Steve Morris, chair of the Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners.
“The company covers a lot of ground across several major regions of the country. It’s an honor they find Cabarrus the right place to build on an established business history.”
Also not far from the Concord airport is Amazon’s distribution center, which opened in 2015 and employs hundreds. The e-commerce giant says the center helps speed up delivery for Charlotte-area customers.
