Uptown Charlotte’s newest luxury hotel is opening this fall, with a new name: Kimpton Tryon Park.
The 18-story building fronts Romare Bearden Park, on Church Street, adjacent to the new 300 South Tryon office building that’s expected to open in late summer. The 217-room hotel is the second in North Carolina (after a Winston-Salem location) and the first in Charlotte.
The name is inspired by the proximity to Tryon Street, Romare Bearden Park and BB&T Ballpark, the company said.
The building will also include a 4,000 square-foot ballroom and an 1,100 square-foot rooftop bar and event space. Kimpton also named a new general manager for the hotel, Robert Hannigan. He most recently managed the Kimpton Monaco Portland, a hotel in Oregon.

“I’m tremendously excited about the opportunity to open Kimpton’s first hotel in Charlotte,” Hannigan said, in a statement. “Our company is proud to bring its pioneering approach to boutique hospitality to the Queen City, and we can’t wait to introduce Kimpton Tryon Park Hotel to the community this fall.”
Kimpton also debuted a new website for the property, http://www.tryonparkhotel.com/, which has more details on the hotel. Kimpton Tryon Park will include a linear park running along Third Street and food options including an “Italian-inspired, modern American restaurant” and a cafe.
