Shops, restaurants and a big new office will open summer 2018 in major new development

Riverbend Village, a major new development in northwest Charlotte, is set to open in summer 2018 with a new Harris Teeter and the headquarters of Corning Optical Communications.

Located at Interstate 485 and Mt. Holly-Huntersville Road, near Mountain Island Lake, Riverbend Village is the latest in a string of dense, mixed-use projects popping up in the suburbs surrounding Charlotte. Those outerbelt projects include developments such as Waverly and Rea Farms at I-485 and Providence Road, Farmington at I-485 and Rocky River Road and the River District at I-485 and West Boulevard.

Workers are almost done grading the site, and vertical construction should begin soon, said MPV Properties. The company is handling leasing at Riverbend Village, which Simpson Commercial and Landmark Development Partners are building.

Corning Optical Communications, which makes fiber optic cables, is building a 182,500 square-foot headquarters building at Riverbend Village, where up to 650 employees are expected to work. As previously announced, Corning Optical Communications is moving that division from Hickory, where it will keep a manufacturing plant.

Harris Teeter is also developing a new store at the location, which will include a gas station. The 78,000 square-foot store is significantly larger than the nearby Harris Teeter it’s replacing.

In all, the development will include more than 500 residences and 330,000 square feet of shops and restaurants. Other tenants announced so far include Firehouse Subs, Dunkin’ Donuts and Great Clips.
