South End brewery Wooden Robot has set July 11 as its grand opening date.
It is located at 1440 S. Tryon St., in a former nightclub space near the Summit Avenue intersection. On its Facebook page, Wooden Robot said it’s planning for a soft opening Friday, July 3 through Sunday, July 5 ahead of the grand opening date.
The brewery specializes in Belgian-style beers, though it will experiment with a variety of products, from hoppy American ales to sours, co-owner Josh Patton told the Observer in May.
Patton, Wooden Robot’s chief executive officer who handles the company’s finances, started the brewery with Dan Wade, his childhood best friend, who handles the brewing.

Patton told the Observer that in its first year, he and Wade are hoping to produce about 1,000 barrels of beer, though the space has the capacity to grow to between 5,000 and 6,000 a year.
