Charlotte restaurateur Frank Scibelli will open a new restaurant called Yafo Kitchen in SouthPark’s Morrison Place in early 2016.
Taking its inspiration from fast-casual Middle Eastern street food, the new restaurant will feature Mediterranean fare like shawarma-spiced rotisserie chicken, hummus made from organic chickpeas and baba ganoush, according to a statement Wednesday.
Israeli-born chef Shai Fargian, recently a private chef and previously at restaurants in Tel Aviv and New York, will head the kitchen at Yafo, which is named after the Israeli port town Jaffa.
Fast-casual industry veteran Paul Plocharczyk will act as director of operations.
Yafo will have the same high-quality culinary standards and reasonable prices as other Scibelli restaurants, according to the statement Wednesday.
Scibelli’s other ventures in Charlotte include Mama Ricotta’s, Midwood Smokehouse and Paco’s Tacos & Tequila.
“At Yafo Kitchen, we will spend an incredible amount of time sourcing the freshest seasonal ingredients and apply them to our traditional family recipes,” Scibelli said.
In addition to the 3,000-square-foot SouthPark location, Scibelli is scouting other sites in the area for possible future Yafos.
