Three major uptown museums announced they will not open Thursday in light of the unrest in Charlotte.
▪ Mint Museum Uptown will be closed Thursday “as a precaution following recent events,” a spokesperson said via email. However, Mint Museum Randolph – which is a couple miles from the center of the city – was to observer normal operating hours on Thursday.
▪ The Bechtler Museum of Modern Art will be closed, “due to the state of emergency in North Carolina,” the venue said in an email.
It added that Thursday night’s Uptown Arts Crawl has been postponed, and that the Modernism + Film screening of “Journeyman Architect: The Life and Work of Donald Wexler” has been cancelled. Patrons who had tickets to the film can request refunds, or can exchange their tickets for another screening this season.
Never miss a local story.
“We will continue to monitor the situation and make a decision on further closings at a later time,” the Bechtler said.
▪ The Harvey B. Gantt Center for African- American Arts + Culture is closed Thursday, and the Symposium it had scheduled for Knight Theater on Thursday (featuring Anna Deavere Smith) has been canceled.
