NASCAR driver Greg Biffle and fellow Friends of the Animals board members on Saturday unveiled the new 2.5-acre site of their planned pet education and adoption center on Lake Norman.
Biffle’s foundation is a lead supporter of the 11,500-square-foot center, which will house a boarding area for adoptable dogs and cats, a medical clinic and education center. Low-cost spay and neuter services will be phased in after the center is open, as well as educational programming for students.
The center is scheduled to be completed by year’s end on Templeton Road, between Interstate 77 exits 31 and 33 in southern Iredell County.
“It’s tragic that 77 dogs and cats a day are euthanized in the greater Lake Norman region,” Biffle said. “When we started dreaming of this project, it was close to 100. And although the rate of euthanasia has gone down over the years, the numbers killed are still staggering.”
