High school football: Here are 7 games to follow Friday night

No. 5 Butler (4-1, 2-0 Southwestern 4A) at No. 6 Myers Park (6-0, 2-0), 7 p.m.: Can Butler’s rugged defense slow down the Mustangs’ arsenal of offensive weapons, led by quarterback Brayden Hawkins?

No. 3 Charlotte Catholic (6-0, 2-0 Southern Carolinas 3A) at Sun Valley (5-1, 1-1), 7:30 p.m.: Spartans QB Sam Howell hasn’t played since being injured two weeks ago. He’ll be needed against a Catholic defense that holds offenses to 7.5 points a game.

No. 4 Charlotte Christian (4-1, 0-0 CISAA) at Charlotte Country Day (4-2, 0-0), 7 p.m.: Christian QB Garrett Shrader has thrown for 1,021 yards this season. Running back Tim Newman has averaged 90 rushing yards in Country Day’s past four games.

Alexander Central (6-0, 2-0 Northwestern 3A-4A) at Freedom (5-1, 2-0), 7:30 p.m.: The visiting Cougars have four players averaging 60 or more rushing yards a game. Freedom QB Jayden Birchfield has passed for nearly 1,400 yards.

Kings Mountain (5-1, 2-0 Big West 3A) at Hunter Huss (4-2, 2-0), 7:30 p.m.: The Mountaineers’ high-scoring offense, led by QB Kaylen Wade, tests a tough Huss defense.

Union Academy (4-2, 1-1 Southern Piedmont 1A) at Bessemer City (6-0, 2-0), 7:30 p.m.: Union Academy averages nearly 280 rushing yards a game. Bessemer City, allowing foes 10 points a game, is off to the school’s best start.

Lewisville (5-1, 1-0 S.C. Region 2 1A) at Lamar (5-0, 0-0), 7:30 p.m.: Two of South Carolina’s top 1A teams will meet in a game that could decide the region title.
