Liberal agenda has ruined my country

In response to “America is not what it used to be” (Nov. 1 Forum):

I take exception to this ultra-liberal opinion.

Children ripped from their parents arms at the border? These people should have stayed at home instead of trying to invade my country illegally and they would have their children in their arms. Give me a break!

I, too, don’t recognize my own country because liberals have destroyed it with their liberal agenda.

I am 85 and when I was a kid this was a nation to be proud of and people were honest and sane, not out looking for dope and immorality and thievery. And, we didn’t need cops in our schools, either

Remember, all it takes for tyranny to succeed is for good man to do nothing.

Bishop’s response on Gab leaves 2 choices

In response to “What did Dan Bishop know about the hate site he invested in?” (Nov. 2 Editorial):

There are only two possible take-aways from Sen. Dan Bishop’s response. Either he does not do his due diligence, making him incompetent at his job. Or, he is lying. Take your pick.

Leave Medicare, Social Security alone

Last December, Republicans in Congress played “Santa Claus” to the wealthiest 1 percent of Americans: They gave them a $1.5 trilllion tax cut. Rather than disclose how they proposed to finance it, their attitude was, basically, “Ho, ho, ho!”

It’s like buying yourself a new luxury automobile with no plan as to how you’re going to pay for it.

Only now, the cat is out of the bag – surprise! They’re coming after your Social Security and Medicare – selling out your health and your future to feed their insatiable greed.

Stabilize the Affordable Care Act

Keith Wilson

It seems healthcare is a key issue this election and the majority of Americans want the Affordable Care Act stabilized and improved. Yet, the GOP leadership has tried to repeal the ACA and sabotaged it, making some premiums higher.

The Senate’s defunding adverse selection payments to insurers, the president’s defunding of subsidies to insurers to help people in need, and the fight in states like North Carolina against expanding Medicaid have increased exchange premiums and driven more carriers out of markets.

As a retired actuary, benefits consultant, and manager, I believe these measures have harmed Americans.

Here’s a man I could get behind for 2020

In response to “In this national emergency, we must recapture unifying ideals” (Nov. 1 Opinion):

Captain “Sully” Sullenberger for president in 2020! He would get my vote. Leadership is critical to the success of any organization. Sully has it.

Block out extremes; keep unity in mind

It is my hope that North Carolina voters go to the polls Tuesday with a clear and open mind, and are not overly influenced by the extreme rhetoric on both sides.

This is a very important election and we as Americans – not partisans – must choose between hope and fear, between moderation and extremism, between empathy and intolerance, and between protecting or destroying our planet’s resources.

Please vote for candidates who best exemplify the positive and who will keep us as the United States of America, “One nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”

US can and should do better; go vote

In response to “GOP Rep. Scalise, in Charlotte, says his party will hold the House” (Nov. 2):

The writer is CEO of the Charlotte Chamber.

Bob Morgan

Friday’s article may have given the impression the Charlotte Chamber was part of a campaign event. We were not. The Chamber does welcome opportunities to introduce our members to leaders and public policy makers of both parties. Thursday we hosted House Majority Whip Steve Scalise, who walks with a limp that reminds us how painfully divided our politics have become.

Putting your life on the line should not be part of the deal for those who seek public office. Nor should it be part of the deal for anyone who goes to worship on a Saturday, Sunday or any other day of the week. We can and should do better.

Tuesday is Election Day. Please go vote if you have not done so already.
